Can you skip Level 1?
Yes. WSET does not require Level 1 as a prerequisite for Level 2. Many students — especially those with some existing wine knowledge — start directly at Level 2.
Level 1 is an excellent introduction if you are completely new to wine and want a gentle starting point. But if you already know the difference between Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, Level 2 is likely the better investment of your time and money.
Choose Level 1 if you...
- ✓ Are brand new to wine with little or no knowledge
- ✓ Work in hospitality and need a quick certification
- ✓ Want a low-pressure introduction before committing to Level 2
Choose Level 2 if you...
- ✓ Already have basic wine knowledge (from dining, travel, or hobby)
- ✓ Want a recognised credential for your career
- ✓ Plan to eventually continue to Level 3
